Centrally Managed Foundations & Corporations
CFR is your designated resource for coordinating the University's philanthropic relationships with corporations and private foundations that have broad interests across multiple units. We CFR manages a portfolio that includes over 250 companies and foundations. These organizations have a propensity for giving to higher education institutions. It's our responsibility and pleasure to help you navigate these relationships insuring a more efficient experience and potentially a result that is reflective of a broader University objective. In order to both maximize the likelihood of your success and minimize the likelihood of competing internal grants, please contact CFR as soon as possible before contacting any corporations or foundations on the list of centrally managed corporations and foundations.
Search by selecting the first letter of the corporation, foundation, or last name of foundation. If the sponsor is centrally managed, we will provide guidance.
CFR can also provide guidance and assistance in determining the best approach as you seek funding for organizations that may not be on the managed list. Thus it is important to notify CFR and your unit's development officer regarding any upcoming corporate or foundation solicitations.
Many foundations accept multiple submissions from the same institution. However, to be strategic and as effective as possible in our approaches, we sometimes need to prioritize proposal submissions. By having applicants contact our office, we can assist with managing the submission process when necessary. Certain funding opportunities permit only one proposal submission per institution. In those cases, CFR partners with the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) which manages an internal review process and selects the submission that will go forward from the University. Limited submission programs have a campus deadline, earlier than the agency deadline. A link to the list of limited submission programs is available on the OVPR web site. A Baylor University user id and password is required to log in.
Whether an award will be administered as a charitable grant, or sponsored project, is a decision made by Baylor University and depends on the nature of the project and the terms and conditions of the award. If you would like to discuss your project in regards to these terms, please contact our office. For more information on the University's definitions of "gift", "charitable grant", and "sponsored project" grant see the LINK.
CFR helps facilitate relationships between faculty and corporate and foundation funders. We can assist in thinking through funding possibilities, contacting funders, helping develop proposals and resolving procedural and policy questions between funders and Baylor University. Contact our office if you believe there would be interest in your project by private professional foundations or companies and if you would like help in developing your proposal. We can also help in determining whether a particular project will likely be administered as a charitable grant or sponsored project. Many Baylor University awards from private foundations and companies need to be administered as sponsored projects. All sponsored research proposals are processed through OSP before being submitted to the funder. OSP must prepare your budget and your proposal must be routed electronically for academic and administrative approvals. Even if it is determined that the award can be administered as a charitable grant, it will be better to have checked with OSP before the award is made versus after to ensure university policies have been followed. The OSP research coordinator for your department can be found atUniversity Research Administrators. If you are applying for a federal or state grant, contact your University Research Administrators
CFR coordinates its efforts with a number of offices to ensure that faculty and administrators receive support on a full range of proposal types. Our affiliated offices include: The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP): OSP supports Baylor University faculty and departmental administrative staff in the acquisition and administration of projects and programs funded from public and private sources outside the University. OSP is the central point of coordination for sponsored projects and the University's authorized representative for grants, contracts, and other agreements. OSP can help faculty seek and obtain external funding, submit proposals, administer awards, and comply with all University and sponsor policies. The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR): OVPR assists faculty in all of their research activities, including proposal preparation, management of grants and contracts, and transferring research into the commercial market. The Office of the VPR can also help secure seed funds for promising projects.
